TELECINE. A public broadcast network · est. in the public domain

Privacy

Telecine collects nothing about you. A television does not know who is in the room, and neither does this one.

What we collect

Nothing. There is no account to make, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no cookies and no tracking of any kind, on the web or in the apps for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Nothing about you, your device or what you watch is sent to us, and there is no server of ours that could receive it.

What the set keeps, on your device

A few things are remembered so the set comes back as you left it, and they never leave the device they are on: the channel you were watching and that you have switched the set on before; on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, the films you asked to be reminded of, any stations you added by hand, whether the six o'clock note is on, and whether the set is left on in the room. With a Receiving Licence, the Almanac also keeps the films you caught, when you caught them, and the people you follow; you can tear its pages out on the Shelf. Delete the app, or clear this site's storage in your browser, and they are gone.

Reminders are notifications your device schedules for itself. On the web, "Remind me" hands your calendar a file; nothing is kept here.

What your device fetches

To show you a picture, the set fetches the schedule from this site, the films from the Internet Archive, stills from Wikimedia Commons, and any station you added yourself. Like any request on the internet, these carry your IP address to the server that answers them, under that service's own policy. This site is hosted by Vercel, whose servers keep ordinary request logs; Telecine does not read them by viewer, and counts only itself (how many films are on, how many hours) — never an audience.

The receiving licence

A licence is bought through the App Store and handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. The app asks Apple, on your device, only whether a licence is held. We never see who bought it.

The phone as the dial

When an iPhone is the dial for an Apple TV, the two talk over your own local network, and only after you choose the phone on the television. What passes between them is a channel number.

Children

Telecine collects nothing from anyone, children included.
